Gameplay

The player progresses through six areas which all require 30 steps at one energy point per step. Random choice encounters are of three varieties; some are the standard type that have a chance of providing small rewards, but the player will also encounter "pleas" (shopping) and lotteries for random drops.

Pleas

Periodically the player's student will "plead" the player to buy an item for them, which is effectively a mini-shop as the items must be paid for from the player's stock of K and Jin. The player can choose to buy an item for K, buy an item for Jin, or not buy anything (which has no consequences, so items that are not wanted can be skipped).

The items for sale are not displayed during the purchase, but can be (partially) identified by the stage. The K purchase is a single stage-specific item, and is therefore fully identified, while the Jin purchase will give one of two stage-specific items. Once an item has been purchased there is no benefit to further purchases of that item, so it is useful to keep track of which items have been purchased to avoid buying duplicates.

Rarely, the player will be given the opportunity to enter an optional special stage, a "famous back alley store". This stage has the same rules as the main stages, except with increased Exp and stage-specific items.

Random Drops

Occasionally the player will come across a "surprise game" random encounter which has a chance of dropping a stage-specific item (the special stage drops 3 different items).
